Hello, I'm Maria

A project manager. A parent. An expat living in Porto, Portugal.

A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life abroad.

How It Started

Relocating to Portugal wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many relocations for expats, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.

The first months were intense — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should.

The Adjustment Period

Culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing were part of it. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that worked for us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.

Why I Built Taviny Oren Hyl

Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.

This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Portugal.

What This Site Is (And Isn't)

This site IS:

  • Hands-on experience from life in Portugal
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated whenever a real change occurs

This site ISN'T:

  • A tourism authority resource
  • A platform for sponsored reviews
  • An ordinary travel blog

Looking Ahead

Our stay in Portugal continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep recording what we learn.

If you have questions about family life in Porto or anywhere in Portugal, please feel free to reach out.

Best regards,

Maria
